I see a lot of CVs and job applications and it’s not unusual at all to use a shortened version of your full name/a nickname/a middle name. I never think anything of it.
I once worked with someone named Yvonne. Except later we all found our her first name was actually Jacqui, and that’s what everyone outside of work called her. She just preferred to go by her middle name professionally, and that was totally fine!

2. Sometimes if you fill out application online, there is an option for “preferred name”. On a resume I’d put “Maria (Mary) Brown”.

I put the name I prefer to go by on my resume and bring up my legal name at the interview/background check stage of the hiring process.

4. Why don't you write your full name but include your nickname in parenthesis, indicating that's what you want to go by?

If I wanted to put a nickname on I'd put it as:
FirstName "Nicknane" LastName
I.e. Johnathon "John" Smith
Alternatively, I have received resumes with alternate first names (get quite a few foreign names that people westernise).
So I don't see a problem with you doing either one.

Just put your preferred name on your resume and leave the legal one off. This isn’t a big deal you are overthinking this times 10 million

7. You can definitely just put your preferred name on your resume. I have hired or been involved in the hiring process of many people, and it is an accepted practice from what I have personally seen. Somewhere else this comes up is people who have advanced degrees like PHDs etc, get married, then their married name does not match their publications, so on their resume they use their maiden name so that their publications are easily found. I would just put a footnote or something on your resume saying "my legal name is XXX, but i have gone by YYY for a while"

I say use Bree. Multiple studies have shown that individuals with 'unusual' (i.e. not Anglo-Saxon) names receive fewer callbacks. I think that is racist and bullshit but it's reality. If you receive an offer, they are not going to rescind it because you used an abbreviated form of your name.
